F. Scala Photography

Every spring my neighborhood is filled with these fluff pink trees. Giant pink cotton balls to welcome you home every day.

Everyone thinks I’m crazy for shooting film lately. But I kinda like getting back to the basics. Besides, its going to be a while before I can afford a DSLR (I’m thinking NIkon D60or D80), so I’m going to have to get my fill of manual goodness through my Dad’s old Nikon FM. Thirty years and counting, and its still going strong. They just don’t make things like they used to, do they?

I stopped by CVS today, and developed another roll of film. Mostly just silly shots, but I wanted to make sure that the problem I had yesterday wasn’t a lens or camera issue.

I am happy to report, that all 24 exposures came out free and clear of any sort of wonkiness. Is that even a word? I don’t know, but it is now. So, it seems I either got a crappy roll of film (which is most likely the case) or the kids over at Wal-mart had some developing issues.

All I can say is THANK GOD!!! I was afraid that the lens I bought through Ebay was damaged. And that would truly stink because, I gave it a physical once over, but never shot anything with it. I really should have checked it as soon as I got it, but work was so busy that I just didn’t get a chance to use it until now.

Here’s a shot of my cup o’java from the Pita House last night…

I am really disappointed today. I developed a roll of 36 exposures, and this is the only picture that came out. All the rest have these weird shadows/lens flares or something bizarre on them. You can see what was printable in my Flickr gallery. I don’t know if its a problem with the lens, my camera, a bad batch of film, or some sort of wonky developing problem… I had taken some really great shots that I was so excited to get back and post… but all I have is this tree… and it doesn’t quite look right either.

Well, at least the colors are nice…

I was going through my computer files today, when I came across some old photos of my parents that had been scanned sometime ago. Its always interesting to see old pictures. Seeing how much people have changed over the years, and maybe getting a little glimpse of what life was like back then…

This is a picture of my parents, from the early 70’s. I’m not sure of the exact date, but I gather is was not too soon after they were married…

Looking at this picture, it dawned on me, that my mother at the time, looked a heck of a lot like Jessica Simpson. Or should I say, J. Simp looks a lot like my mom? Mom did come about 30 yrs before Jessica…. hehe

Here’s a comparison:

Even the hairdo is similar! So, in theory, in another 30 yrs or so, when J. Simp catches up in age to where Mom is now, she should look a whole lot like Mom. That is of course if she doesn’t go all crazy with the plastic surgery and lip injections… as most Hollywood types tend to do.

I’m actually pretty excited for the warmer weather to get here, and for the chance to get out and start taking some shots again, now that work has gone back to some normal hours. No more 14 hr days for me!

So, hopefully soon you’ll get to see some new work posted here.

The only thing is, where to start… Any ideas, or themes you would like to see? Post them below. (Nothing vulgar please!)
